Traumatic Brain Injury

Continuing Education Program

TBIoptions: Advancing Your Professional Knowledge is offered through Kansas State University as a professional development opportunity for two hours of continuing education credit. Instruction strategies include lecture, readings, and video vignettes of individuals who share their first-hand experiences. The modules allow for self-directed learning.

Module 1: Introduction to Traumatic Brain Injury

Provides fundamental knowledge about traumatic brain injury. You will learn the definition of TBI, types of injury, and possible impacts, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects (about 35 min).

Module 2: Learn Consequences of TBI to Promote Change

Outlines possible implications of a traumatic brain injury for relationships, activities of daily living and work. You will learn about the importance of care providers and community resources in enhancing the health and well-being of those who experience TBI (about 35 min).

Module 3: Connecting to Resources

Engages you in an in-depth discussion of supportive organizations and agencies for survivors and family members (about 20 min).

Module 4: Apply your Knowledge

Advances your understanding of traumatic brain injury through application of what you have learned to real-life experiences shared by other survivors and family members (about 30 min).

As a result of taking this course, you will be able to:
  1. Define traumatic brain injury and list possible causes of injury;

  2. Identify impacts of TBI that may affect a survivor’s physical, cognitive, behavioral and emotional well being;

  3. Describe at least one possible consequence of TBI for relationships, activities of daily living, and work;

  4. Explain 2-3 strategies to help individuals who experience injury (through individual interactions and use of community resources).

Assessment of Learning

Your assessment of learning is accomplished through an online quiz that covers content from all four modules, readings, and learning activities. You must achieve a score of 80% for successful program completion. Passing the test will allow you to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Kansas State University. It is your responsibility to verify with your state/or governing agency/or professional development committee that these CEUs will be accepted (you have 21 days to complete the program from the time access is granted).

Recommended Internet Connection

Internet Connection with a wired broadband connection is recommended. Wireless, mobile, satellite, and dial-up connections are not always as fast or stable. Please note: Portions of the program content may not be viewable using mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, or Android devices).
